Expect a totally different subject today! I’m going to review something that I have always wanted since I got a today. And today I bought it. And that is a water fountain for a cat. A water fountain has ‘running water’ – Cats love running water. And just like it says on the package: “Like humans, pets require running water as a vital element for survival. Water constitutes approximately 70% of a cat’s or dog’s body. Encouraging your pets to drink more water helps promote their health, well-being and it helps ensure proper kidney function and may decrease the incidence of crystal formation and urinary disease (FUS).” Sounds like fun!
The reason why I wanted a fountain isn’t because I’m too lazy to refill their water every time. But they ‘pull’ the water bowl with their paw every time they want to drink, result: Water everywhere. And I heard cats actually liked a water fountain. My aunt has one as well, and she loved it! – And so did her cats.
So, we went to the pet-store and we were recommended the ‘Cat-It Fresh & Clean Drinking Fountain‘. It was the cheapest, and it didn’t looked too complicated. It only had a water section, some had a food section as well. But the pet-store-guy told me that one isn’t handy at all, so I believed him on his word, gave him the money and went back home.
So, We got home and it was time to have a look how it all worked. The man in the pet-store already explained us a bit. But now we had to do it on its own. Me and my boyfriend that is, together with two very curious cats. But how does it work? It’s very easy, inside the fountain is a pump that will pump the water up, into the hole in the middle of the top so your cat can drink from it.

This is what you see when you open the box. The fountain is pretty big compared to an average bowl. The cats don’t have to move down with their head anymore to reach the water in the bowl. In this fountain can go 2 liters of water. And make sure to clean it before you use it.

If you take the blue top off there are some more parts you will need. You can see the adapter in the bubble wrap, the adapter is needed to keep the pump going, below that is the filter for the water.
On the bottom on the side you’ll see a wire you can connect to the adapter.
Connect it, plug it in and voilà. But don’t forget to fill it with water first.
Without the top and all the plastic and paper you can see the carbon filter that will filter the water from any dirt.
Without the filter you can see the pump. The water will go in here and the pump will pump it water up.You can remove that blue frame with spinning it to the left.
The pump! You can take the pump out as well to clean the entire fountain. It’s stuck to the bottom with a suction nap. so you can just pull it out and put it back in.

We cleaned it, put it back together, filled it with water, plugged the adapter in and put it outside. The wire isn’t that long, so we had to use cord sets so we could turn it on, and put it outside. We did it outside cause we were afraid everything would get wet. Thank god it didn’t. This picture is taken outside, but you can see the water that is pumped up through the hole in the middle.
Be sure to read the manual first. I know, I know, fuck the manual. But I had no idea how it worked, until I’ve read the manual. It has information about how to put it back together. When to get a new filter, how to clean the pump. Warnings and F&Q. It’s in different languages (German, English, French and Spanish)
Do I like it? Yes, I love it! Do my cats love it just as much as me? Not yet, they are slightly intimated by it. But they just have to get use to it. It doesn’t make much noise – actually, I haven’t heard anything at all, yet.
One thing that I don’t like about it is, is that you can get it in just one color. Sue me, I’m a woman, I love colors and I want to match everything with everything. You can only get it in blue/white. Another thing that I don’t like is that it needs to be plugged in, or else it doesn’t work, and the water isn’t pumped up. And the manual wasn’t in dutch, but since my English is alright that wasn’t a problem. Overall, it looks great and it works fine. And I’m sure my cats will love it after a few days. I’ll make sure to keep you guys updated about it!
