Harvey, Born Without Bones

Harvey is a kitten who is born without bones in his front legs. Yet, the little guy has learned to walk on his elbows and acts like he doesn’t know any better!

The four-month old kitten was rescued after being found for sale online by his owner. A woman who felt sorry for him took him home, but realized that he needed treatment. Cats Protection took Harvey in and found him a home with ‘foster carer’ Liz McCulloch.

Radial Agenesis

Harvey has a medical condition called ‘radial agenesis’. An X-ray revealed that Harvey’s ulna and radius bones, which connect the upper half or his front legs to his paws, are missing. Luckily, Harvey is now waiting for an operation to replace the bones with metal pins, thanks to the effort of animal charity Cats Protection — Cats Protection has raised more than £3,000 in only three days so Harvey can have the life-changing operation when he is six months old. The operation will help Harvey to hopefully stand up and walk again and avoid spinal injury for when he grows bigger. Harvey however behaves like nothing is wrong!

“He runs around on his elbows and happily plays with my other cat and dog… I have fostered cats for 25 years and I’ve never seen a cat with his condition, but it doesn’t slow him down” Says Liz.

“Once Harvey has had the operation, his future looks very bright.” Says Lorraine Currie, co-ordinator of Cats Protection’s Glasgow.

Poor little Harvey but as you said (and is obvious from the pictures) he doesn’t know he’s any different. Bless his heart AND the heart of those who are helping him. The operation will help him in the long run but you just have to hope the little guy doesn’t endure any pain – ever. He’s just precious.
