Celebrities have a lot of demands on their time and when they do have time to themselves, many love to spend time with their pets. How many times have we seen tabloids show off photos of celebrities and their pets or watch our stars show up to major events with their beloved cat or dog. It should come as no surprise that these same stars take the time out of their hectic lives to donate to many worthy animal charities by giving of their time and money.
Much Love Animal Rescue is a Los Angeles animal shelter whose purpose is to find loving homes to animals in the LA area. They have found homes for over 3,000 animals since 1999 and work tirelessly as a no-kill shelter.
The organization has had numerous celebrities that have donated both their time, money, and even their likeness to help the Much Love cause. Those stars include Alicia Silverstone, Drew Barrymore, Hillary Duff, Kirsten Dunst, and Katie Heigle.
Another organization that has benefited from celebrity generosity is The Amanda Foundation, a 34-year-old animal shelter that also serves Los Angeles. When the organization saw private funding drop by over 70 percent a couple of years ago, several big stars gave their time and money to help shelter.
Kristin Bauer of HBO’s True Blood as well as Bill Maher and Tina Sinatra were among those that donated to the charity. In addition, Nigel Lythgoe of “So You Think You Can Dance” served as an emcee for a charity event that helped raise funds for the shelter.
Jennifer Harman is a world renown poker player and mom who also loves animals. For many years, Jennifer has hosted charity poker tournaments that have benefited the Nevada SPCA. At these events she has brought together stars of the poker world as well as various sports stars all in the name of helping animals. Her events have raised close to a quarter of a Million dollars to help animals in the Nevada area.
As you can see from above, there are many celebrities that donate their time and money to help animals. Of course, you don’t have to be a major celebrity to help less fortunate animals. You can help by either adopting a pet, helping to find homes to animals without one, or by donating your time and money to a local animal charity. Your donations may not get the same publicity as a major celebrity, but it may very well give a deserving animal a second chance that they may not have had without you.
