Simon’s Cat

Don’t worry, I’m still alive! I lacked the motivation and inspiration yesterday. So I decided to skip a day.

You ever heard of Simon’s Cat? I bet you did.
Simon’s Cat is an animated cartoon series created by the British animator Simon Tofield. Simon’s Cat is a funny who tries everything to get his owner to feed him. Simon started animating at a very young age. Inspired by cartoons that he saw on tv, he used to create basic flip-books in trying to emulate the techniques that were being used on the screen.

Simon’s Cat is a charming, yet mischievous cat that lives with Simon.

The Simon’s Cat films are drawn and animated in Adobe Flash using a Wacom stylus and tablet. Even though the films are made using Adobe Flash software, they are still hand-animated in a traditional way, frame to frame. This means that it usually takes between 12 and 25 drawings to create 1 second of a Simon’s Cat film.

Simon’s Cat became famous through Youtube, but the third episode was shown on BBC, before it was published on Youtube. Simon is inspired by his own four cats, so that is probably the reason you see typical cat behavior.

Simon’s first video (Cat Man Do) was published on youtube three years ago, on the 8th of December in 2008.

The noises your hear aren’t coming from his cats. Simon performs those noises by himself. The only exception is the bird in ‘snow business’.

Simon also got a few prices for his work. Those are the ‘”Best Comedy”, British Animation Awards 2008′ and “Most Outstanding Animation”.

In 2009 Simon’s Cat was also published in book format. Canongate released the title on 1 October 2009 in the United Kingdom, and it was later released in more countries.

So Simon’s Cat is the main character. He loves cat food, but also enjoys birds, mice, and fish out of Simon’s koi pond. Simon’s cat has not been officially named, but writer Simon Tofield says that Simon’s cat is based on his own cat, Hugh.

Then there is his owner Simon and Simon’s sister’s dog. The dog that first appeared in the video ‘Fed Up‘, but also appears in the strip. Some more characters are the Bird from ‘snow business’, The Hedgehog, the bunny, a garden gnome and the kitten. A new member to the family who, appears smarter than he looks like.

He also has his own book, game, strip ánd T-shirts.

Funny, I was just thinking of the first video today when a friend told me how his cat rudely awakened him by attacking his foot.
